Hi Phil,
I do not like supplements. As a pro athlete, I need to be really careful I do not ingest something that results in a positive drug test, and I am only sure that apples are safe. Most stuff out of a bottle is suspect.
I use whole grain, organic, minimally processed food to fuel my body. I like to eat most of my grains and starchy carbohydrates during breakfast and lunch and then stick to vegetables and meat at night. A typical day would start with a Nature's Path Maple Nut oatmeal and an apple before swimming, some Optimum Power with added almonds and soymilk and banana before riding, the Rebound cereal after riding along with some quinoa with olive oil and salt then maybe a piece of meat with roasted vegetables or a chopped vegetable salad for dinner. With a glass of wine.
That is just an example of my day. AND, I was eating the Nature's Path well before I ever started working with the company. I drink lots of water during the day, often sparkling water to make it interesting, I use GU2O in my water bottles to replace electrolytes, and if I need a treat it will include chocolate nearly all the time.
I supplement vitamins A, C, and E and use selenium and zinc only when I am sick. I will supplement antioxidants and iron when I am at altitude regardless of whether I am well. For regular training, if you eat a high quality diet, you will not need to add extra vitamins IN MY OPINION (disclaimer)
