Mel,

I see that you are still riding for CycleOps and I have a question for you. I heard that they were working on a disc compatible power tap for mountain bikes. Are they still working on it? Any updates?

thanks,

james

Oh my friend, your timing is impeccable... I have one on my bike as we speak.

I am working on a camp with CycleOps for this summer. At that camp you can test it out! Super cool.. however, they will be available before that... very soon in fact.

I am very excited to be armed with this new info going into this season. Knowing the watts you push in a mountain bike race versus XTERRA.. how cool is that?

Stay tuned for more on this very subject.

Killer! Thanks for the reply Mel.

I currently have the PowerTap SL (wired) on my road bike. Do you know if the new MTB hub will be availalbe wired? I would be stoked if I could use the same computer and just have to buy the hub? I can't wait!!!!

How are you finding the power offroad. Using more of less power than expected? More watts than road climbs?

James.

Hi James,

The new hub is wireless and trust me, the wireless setup is killer. You won't have to be worried about using the same computer, you will get a wireless reciever for your mtb.

The distribution of power is different, lots of max efforts with lulls... as expected. But it is clear how important training lactic capacity. What is interesting is finding out what the max you need is and the difference doing hill repeats on your mountain bike versus road bike.
