Hey Mel,

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I was watching on live internet and looking for you. I realized you must not be feeling well when you came in from the bike.

Ok so now down to business, what do you think of the switch for next year, moving Nationals to Ogden in September?

Oh, and why aren't you doing the Les Contadores (sp) anymore?

hi Heather...thanks for watching!! definitely not the day I worked all year to have but thinking about it definitely gives me some persepective that will be useful next season. It was hard to be continually passed the entire way up the hill and back to transition.

Regarding the change in venue. It is no secret I like Ogden a heck of a lot more than Tahoe. Much better course for me. It is a shame that Tahoe won't be part of the series at all but given we are talking about making Nationals double points for pros I am all about making Ogden the race.

I decided to focus on winning the end of the season races rather than planning another trip. I think I would like to do La Ruta but I am waiting for a better fit. I might be at a different multi day race next year... we'll see.

Mel,

Yea the Ruta doesn't really fit for you and there are other races similar earlier in the year that will help you build miles on the bike anyway.

I am stoked to have the Nationals here in Ogden. The lake will be colder though and probably require wetsuits. It really depends on how hot it stays in September. But the colors that time of the year are the best. Next year will be my first time doing the sport class all by myself. I have done the swim twice now, and I am tring to loose weight so I can go faster on the bike because I was doing it in 2 1/2 hours this summer and I weighed 200lbs.

So what is taking place of Tahoe?

I can't wait to see the schedule for next year.

I think that no race will happen in Tahoe this year, unfortunately. I am as curious as you are about the schedule.

I think working towards a start in the Sport race would be fantastic. Nothing like a big goal to keep you motivated through the winter.

In addition to staying on your exercise program you need to ensure you are eating the most healthful foods possible to recover from training. If you are eating well your body will naturally optimize your weight and your level of hunger. It is much for satisfying to eat whole grain, fresh food than it is to eat processed options. Putting the two together you will be amazed by how good you feel and you will be sure to accomplish your goal.

Happy training!

Mel,

Your right about the food. I have always been active, but fall off a little when I am coaching due to time constraints, but this year during soccer I have gotten up at 5 am to get a work out in twice a week. Then I have been doing night rides after practice, and long rides on Saturday.

My problem is food. When you were not brought up with the right foods it is hard to change. In the last few years I have gone from white to whole weat on my bread and pasta. I also make sure to include 5 fruits and veges. Vegtables are my weekness and food portions are a problem I think. I have been keeping a close eye on my portions lately to see where the porblem is. It is a work in progress but I am determined.

Oh, I can't wait til you update your site
