Sand Tires? 8 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi Mel
Last fall I did a 60km enduro on mostly dry, soft, loose sandy trails. I realize that my sand riding skills need work, especially on those long life-sucking climbs, but I can't help wondering if I should have switched to different tires. What Maxxis (of course) would you recommend?
Thanks!

The key to riding sand is to stay on top of it rather than digging in. To do so, you want to ride a wider tire with low pressure so it stays afloat.

The Larsons are good but so are the Crossmark and I also liked the new Monorail when I rode it in Fontana. Wider is good and again, lots of smaller knobs because you want to minimize the rolling resistance since you are going to need to run low pressure.

Also, point in a straight line and pedal. The faster you go through sand the better!
