Hi Mel,
I'm 38 and in good shape (former D1 track athlete). People always comment to me that I should race. I'm tempted to. But there's a part of me that likes staying, "pure." I remember the fun of running before I became a college athlete. Is there anything to gain from racing? Or, am I making a big deal of nothing?

Racing is fun and personal. I am not sure what you would look to gain other than a personal challenge, fun times with great people and some personal satisfaction from completing a difficult race. Sounds like all positive stuff to me. But racing is for some and not for others. Only you know whether it is the right thing for you.

Guess there's no way to find out unless I give it a try. I've been on group rides that were basically races in disguise and it wasn't for me. But , since I've been down in North Carolina there's a much friendlier vibe.
BTW I think it's cool that you take the time to have a forum and answer posts. Best wishes on your season.
