Melanie,
I want the best pedal for Xterra Racing and I Know there are alot of Pedal brands and _style_s on the market for this type of event. Crank Brother Eggbeaters, Speed Play frogs, Shimano, Time Attack, etc. What _style_s have you tried and could you elaberate a little about your experiences with various _style_s or have you been using one type all along.
Thanks G!

Here is what I know about pedals:
1. Shimano SPD pedals last forever and work in everything. They are so much better than everything else it is not even funny.
2. Time pedals are okay, they work well in mud, and they are basically not bad. I have ridden them in the past and I found the cleats wore out really quickly.
3. Eggbeaters fall apart. See Conrad from Maui 2004 for more information. They are light but they suck.
4. People either totally love or totally hate the Speedplay pedals. I have no experience with them.
I have Shimano pedals on my bikes. I have the PD M647 platform pedal for practicing gnarly descents and the light PD M949 pedals for racing. Magic!

Melanie,
Thank You for saving me the hassel's of trial and error for pedals, and if you don't mind me asking what shimano shoe do you wear this season? I have been shopping around.
I tested the Adidas top line Triathlon/Road shoe (Not for Xterra Racing). The shoe has potential but has one minor flaw. It had some durability issues with the Instep adjustment strap other then that it had a good sound _base_ to build from for a TT shoe. They should have used Stainless Steel or Titanium instead of plastic for the instep adjustment strap for this caliber of shoe.

I ride with the M225 mountain bike shoe and the TR02 W women's specific tri shoe on the road.
The M225 is great because the ratchet strap is long enough that you can leave it clicked in one notch, slide your feet in the shoe and then finish tightening the ratchet as you ride. This is key for fast transitions. I also find the new mountainbike shoe very comfortable.
The new women's tri shoe has a narrower heel and low volume toe box so it fits smaller feet much better. It is nice for riding on the road.
I have no experience with the Adidas shoe and have not even seen it to hazard any guess on performance.. :?
Hope that helps..
