Hi, Mel. I would like to know what and how much do you eat/drink the evening and morning before the race and also during the race. I am asking this because if I manage to eat all the carbs I often read in articles and magazines frequently I feel the necessity to go to the bathroom during the race.

I have received some good info from Neal Henderson regarding fuelling at altitude which indicates a higher % of carbs for higher elevation. So since I am at 6000 feet, I will eat a bit more carbohydrate and reduce fat/protein slightly (about 15% shift) to account for this requirement.

That said, I think it is more important to focus on hydration and fueling for the whole week before the race with the most important night for sleep and food TWO nights before the race. I think you really set your stores up 48 hours prior so that should be the key evening for you.

The morning of the race I eat Nature's Path oatmeal and some toast and almond butter to top up. I pretty much eat the same thing every race. Also, during the race I take 3-4 Gu packets and two bottles of Gu2O so I have my own mix as long as possible and will try to drink one extra bottle while I am out there.
