Speedsuits 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Mel, I've read the last Triathlete Magazine's article about speedsuits and I have two questions:
First: Do you think these speedsuits with 0.3 mm SCS neoprene
( neutral buoyancy ) are faster than speedsuits with a mix of Nylon and lycra ( like Speedo's fast skin II ) ?
Second: I know we can ride and run with lycra/nylon speedsuits. Can we ride and run with these 0.3 mm neoprene speedsuits or they have to be taken off in T1 ?
Thanks very much, Luiz.

Hi Luiz,

I don't know if they are that much faster than the speedo suit. I am sure that wearing a speedo suit ONLY is probably faster than wearing a speedsuit over other clothing just because the bulk cannot help your hydrodynamics. I think the better "slippiness" of the speedsuit might help a bit but I am not certain. I have worn both and basically, I came out in the same place probably

I would NOT wear the speedsuit after the swim. It is not a very breathable fabric, they tend to be black and they do not have any pockets. They are not advisable on the bike. Plus they are quite tight, I don't think you would enjoy running in it. The speedsuit is certainly meant to be taken off.

So either, a Fastskin or a speedsuit are a great option. I enjoyed swimming in the speedsuit at Worlds but I still think swimming more mileage would have made me faster.
