In four weeks of racing you will probably develop more high end fitness but you may lose a bit of endurance _base_. Not much though. As you go past four races in a row, you will probably just start to get tired more than de-trained, so I wouldn't recommend too many more weeks of racing in a row.
I usually do a longer ride mid-week between races to maintain cyling fitness. For running, I skip the long run but do a couple of race-pace maintainance runs.
Keeping in touch with good feeling is much more important than training between races. However, you can train a little bit more if a race is a low priority and if you recover quickly after races. No point in training, though, if you are not recovered.
Anyway, don't worry about _base_. Race season is about race pace... winter is for _base_.
