Diminishing Base 2 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Melanie,
Thank you for having this forum and being so diligent to answer all of our questions!
My question is with having 4 XTERRA's in row (4 consecutive weekends) will I see my _base_ start to diminish? since I obviously will not be able to do any long run/bike on the weekends to maintain my current _base_. Thanks in advance and the best of luck to you the remainder of the season!
Alan

In four weeks of racing you will probably develop more high end fitness but you may lose a bit of endurance _base_. Not much though. As you go past four races in a row, you will probably just start to get tired more than de-trained, so I wouldn't recommend too many more weeks of racing in a row.

I usually do a longer ride mid-week between races to maintain cyling fitness. For running, I skip the long run but do a couple of race-pace maintainance runs.

Keeping in touch with good feeling is much more important than training between races. However, you can train a little bit more if a race is a low priority and if you recover quickly after races. No point in training, though, if you are not recovered.

Anyway, don't worry about _base_. Race season is about race pace... winter is for _base_.
